Monster goes in to the doctor today for the first checkup he's had since he was released from the Hospital last November. He was supposed to go in three months after his surgery but he's been too afraid of the cost to make an appointment. Having his original prescription for meds expire made him phone the doctor's office for the first time. I can't make him do anything he doesn't want to do or doesn't believe is necessary. He seemed surprised that he had to be seen by the doctor to have his prescriptions renewed. I feel we're lucky his doctor chose to take him on despite having no health insurance.
He's been putting off going into a doctor's office for two reasons. He was waiting to be taken on as a full time employee with full benefits (including health insurance) by the company he's been working as an independent contractor for - and he wants to save money for a new car because the van he's driving seems too old to continue pouring money into. At this point the van needs a new radiator and the electrical system is shot.
The good news is that he's just become a salary man for the company he's working for. His benefits kick into action in September because all of the months he's been working for them are being taken into account and made retroactive. With that steady income coming in, perhaps he will not need a vehicle as large as the van any more because the professional scavenger business will not be as necessary. That means a smaller, much more fuel-efficient car to get around in.
We're on the verge of having a semi-regular life (fingers crossed).
